5 Exciting Things Happening at CEoT 2021

When it comes to virtual meetings, I know you have several options. However, I wanted to make a case for the 2021 Cutting Edge of Transplantation (CEoT) meeting and tell you why I’m excited about it.

CEoT is the AST’s winter meeting and is typically held in Phoenix. This year, it will take place virtually February 25-27, 2021, and focus on modern immunosuppression innovations. Our Planning Committee has been doing a great job to ensure this meeting is as engaging as possible, given our virtual world.

Here are five things to know if you are considering registering.

 1. Attendees Can Grab a Seat at a Virtual Networking Table

Virtual networking isn’t the same – and we know that. However, CEoT 2021 will feature a platform that will allow face-to-face video networking for small groups of people. Attendees will have the option to join the Face-to-Face Video Networking Hall. Upon entering, the platform will add attendees to a “table” at random or allow them to select a table if they see a colleague in the Hall. This table will serve as a Zoom-style call where only a few transplant professionals will be available to chat with one another. Attendees are encouraged to visit several tables to maximize their networking opportunities.

2. Three Days of Sessions You Won’t Want to Miss

I know three days is a significant time commitment, but the good news is that all sessions will be available to attendees OnDemand for one year after the meeting. Attendees will also have the ability to earn CME credits by attending live or OnDemand sessions.

The program features 14 concurrent sessions on immunosuppression, care delivery, and outcomes. There are also two specialty-specific sessions featuring talks on liver, kidney, heart, lung, and infectious disease. 3. Transplant Visionaries Challenge

Join us on Friday, February 26, at 2:45 pm ET for the Transplant Visionaries Challenge. During this session, presenters will pitch their ideas to a panel of five judges. This interactive session will allow the judges to award prizes, and the audience will have the opportunity to vote on their favorite. Presentations will include:

4. Three Notable Keynote Speakers

We are thrilled to welcome three keynote speakers to CEoT 2021. You won’t want to miss these sessions (and if you do, you have the option to watch them on-demand).

Amy P. Abernethy, MD, PhD is an oncologist and internationally recognized clinical data expert and clinical researcher. As the Principal Deputy Commissioner of Food and Drugs, Dr. Abernethy helps oversee FDA’s day-to-day functioning and directs special and high-priority cross-cutting initiatives that impact the regulation of drugs, medical devices, tobacco, and food.

Atul Butte, MD, PhD is the Priscilla Chan and Mark Zuckerberg Distinguished Professor and inaugural Director of the Bakar Computational Health Sciences Institute at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF). Dr. Butte is also the Chief Data Scientist for the entire University of California Health System, with 20 health professional schools, 6 medical schools, 5 academic medical centers, 10 hospitals, and over 1,000 care delivery sites. Dr. Butte has been continually funded by NIH for 20 years, is an inventor on 24 patents, and has authored over 200 publications, with research repeatedly featured in the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, and Wired Magazine.

Dr. John Beigel is at the US National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID). He attended the Medical College of Ohio, completed residency at the University of Cincinnati, a fellowship in Critical Care Medicine at the National Institutes of Health, and a fellowship in Infectious Disease at the Massachusetts General Hospital. Since completing fellowship, his research interests are primarily focused around clinical research and therapeutics in influenza and other emerging infectious diseases.

5. Interactive Abstract Poster Sessions

Attendees will have the opportunity to attend the CEoT 2021 Abstract Session on Thursday, February 25, at 4 pm ET. Our platform will allow those in attendance to interact with abstract presenters live. I encourage you to take the time to view the abstract presentations of our young transplant professionals.
