The AST applauds the efforts of UNOS to explore ways of increasing equity in access to transplantation by examining the issue of liver redistricting. In response to these efforts, the AST has created a workgroup to closely follow the work of the UNOS liver committee. This workgroup has produced a document that summarizes the issues and outlines key considerations, so that you can better understand the implications of any proposal that might be put forth.

In the rare ‘easy consensus’ of the transplant world, we can agree that live donor kidney transplantation is the best treatment option for most patients with late-stage CKD. Consequently, the declining rate of living kidney donation in the US has been confounding. In spite of this, novel strategies to remove barriers to living donation have neither been effectively disseminated nor widely implemented. The deadline to submit nominations for the 2015 AST Board of Directors is now closed.
Dr. Daniel Salomon, Chair of the Governance Committee, invites AST members to submit nominations for qualified individuals to serve on the AST Board of Directors.
Open positions on the AST Board of Directors include the President-Elect, Secretary (two-year term), and three Councilors-at-Large (three-year terms). The term of service begins with the rotation of the board at the annual Town Hall meeting that will be held during the 2015 American Transplant Congress in Philadelphia, PA.

Effective October 1, Susan Nelson will retire as Executive Vice President of the AST after 20 years of service. Ms. Nelson will assume an emeritus role behind the scenes, helping to facilitate the transition of leadership until her departure on December 3.
Libby McDannell, Executive Director of the AST, will step into the role of Executive Vice President as of October 1, and Leslie Clark will join the team as the AST’s Executive Director.
